At the FRCABLE Cable Test Lab, cable samples are inspected to verify critical construction parameters including insulation thickness, sheath thickness, conductor construction and overall cable dimensions. These inspections form an important part of our production quality control for solar and photovoltaic cables.
Insulation Thickness Testing
Insulation thickness is an important parameter affecting the electrical integrity, mechanical protection and long-term reliability of a cable.
During testing, a cross-sectional sample of the cable is prepared and the insulation thickness is measured at multiple points around the conductor using precision measurement equipment.
The measured values are then compared with the requirements of the applicable cable standard and product specification.
Testing helps verify:
Insulation Thickness
Confirms that sufficient insulation material has been applied around the conductor.
Minimum Thickness
Checks that no area of the insulation falls below the required dimensional limit.
Insulation Concentricity
Evaluates the uniformity of the insulation layer around the conductor.
Consistent insulation dimensions help maintain reliable electrical and mechanical performance throughout the service life of the cable.
Sheath Thickness Testing

The outer sheath protects the cable against mechanical stress and environmental exposure during installation and operation.
FRCABLE measures sheath thickness at multiple positions around the cable cross-section to verify both dimensional consistency and compliance with the applicable product specification.
Proper sheath thickness helps support:
Mechanical protection
Abrasion resistance
Dimensional stability
Environmental resistance
Long-term cable reliability
The measured results are recorded and evaluated according to the requirements applicable to the cable being tested.
Cable Construction & Dimensional Inspection
In addition to insulation and sheath thickness, FRCABLE can inspect other important dimensional characteristics of solar cables.
Conductor Construction
Verification of conductor size, strand construction, individual wire dimensions and overall conductor structure.
Overall Cable Diameter
Measurement of the finished cable diameter to ensure dimensional consistency and compatibility with installation and connection requirements.
Cable Ovality
Evaluation of cable roundness to identify dimensional variation in the finished cable.
Insulation & Sheath Concentricity
Inspection of the uniform distribution of insulation and sheath materials around the cable.
